When I was 14 years old, I started my career as a children's entertainer. It was my love for children and my enjoyment in the arts that drew me to this job at a young age. Now another 14 years on, I'm still entertaining children working for my company, Kiddly-Winks Children's Entertainment. At Kiddly-Winks, where we offer services in face painting, balloon twisting, magic, games, disco parties, workshops and jumping castle hire, we're all about making kids smile. We currently have a team of 10 entertainers plus administration staff (all of whom I adore!). We have on average 25 or so bookings per weekend where we provide entertainment at birthday parties, christenings, corporate events, festivals, etc. I too still work on the weekends. I get so much enjoyment out of making children happy. I hope to entertain for as long as people continue to book me.
For me, it's all about creating a positive impact on children and their families, as well as providing others with training so that they can work as successful children's entertainers and get the same enjoyment from working as I do.
I believe we are all unique with our own talents and gifts, so find your calling, what you feel you're on this planet for. For me, it's all about creating a positive impact on children and their families, as well as providing others with training so that they can work as successful children's entertainers and get the same enjoyment from working as I do. I want to use whatever influence I have to create a difference, whether big or small, to a parent or child, to my staff or a KEA member. If you want to become a better children's entertainer, I hope I make a difference to you.
Keeping people engaged and on track to becoming the best children's entertainer they can be is something I've been working on over the years as the staff trainer at Kiddly-Winks. When I provide teaching or training, I believe it is important to provide clear goal points and timelines and employ various teaching methods, such as a hands-on approach, visual lessons, written manuals and discussions to help people be fully immersed in learning. I've found that having an obtainable goal, a set time limit and various ways to obtain the goal give people the tools they need to succeed, as well as inspire a sense of pride in becoming a professional and confident children's entertainer.
Efficiency is key. Working smarter and not harder is how I like to run my business. This goes for training as well, and also for the day-to-day running of the business. In my experience of learning the hard way and then teaching my staff the efficient way, years can be saved in becoming a professional with proper training. As for the everyday running of Kiddly-Winks, we implement many various time-saving systems to ensure we remain in control in the booking process and provide a professional and stress-free service to our clients. With the technology and training available these days, I believe we can all work smarter and not harder to become the best kids entertainers we can be.
I get you. I've been there in the highs and have definitely been there in the lows. I am not ashamed or afraid to share my failures as from them I've learned my greatest lessons. My experience in creating a business from the ground up means I have great knowledge in bookings management, marketing, branding, hiring/firing/training of staff, as well as utilizing current technologies to your advantage.
Throughout the years, I have won various face painting and balloon twisting competitions. In 2016, I was a business class lecturer at Ozjam Balloon Convention.
I do what I do because I love what I do. Whether working with the children on the weekends or providing training, I do it with a smile. I get a lot out of teaching and training others as I've seen it time and time again that no matter who you are, with passion and perseverance, you can achieve a lot. Just take one step at a time.
It's an exciting time right now to be a children's entertainer. With networking, training and technology at our fingertips, the choice is ours to step out to be all that we can be. I'm excited to join you as we grow, share and care together to ultimately raise the bar of kids entertainment as we know it, and to entertain like we never have before.
